Long week and forgetfulness

I took pictures this week, but then forgot my camera at work.  Sooo.  Long story short, they will have to be uploaded to the blog later in the week when I remember.  Sorry about that.

This last week we were a little keyed up, I don't know if it was the weather, all the assemblies, or just that is was a long week.  On Tuesday we have the USDA coming from Washington to film our school and do an assembly.  We need to remember to be on our best behavior.  We want our school to be shown in the best possible light.

We are still working on our Unity Quilt.  Because of assemblies, Ms. Witcher coming, and DARE we only ended up getting one day of social studies last week. :(  We are going to finish the quilt this week, so if your student hasn't finished with their rough draft it needs to be finished, so that Tuesday and Wednesday we can complete the quilt.  Why not on Monday, you ask?  Well, Monday  is Constitution Day, so we will be doing a quick lesson on the Constitution.  Then we will finish the Unity Quilt.

On Thursday we are going to start a new unit on the government.  One of the assignments for this unit is going to be memorizing the Preamble to the Constitution.  They will have to say it to me anytime before Oct. 12th.  This gives them a month to memorize it.  I have found a really easy way to memorize it is listening to the School House Rock song, over and over, and then over again.   I had my own daughter listen to it on the computer with the head phones.  I promise it works.  Just go to youtube.com and search school house rock preamble.

I am also going to be introducing the book talks this week in class.  The students will need to pick a book, on their level, to read before October 31st.  They will do a book talk on the book they pick and then do a report and presentation. I will put the requirements for the report and presentation on the homework link after I talk to the students.  When they go to the library this week I am going to ask them to pick the book they want to do for their book talk.  So please be asking them about it.
